  Remembering 9/11 (#101)
September 11, 2006

In Remembering 9/11, Iowa Public Television looks at how the lives of Iowans have been affected by the events of this infamous day and its aftermath.

Life is different for Iowans in the post 9/11 world. Revisit three young Iowans, who were teenagers when the towers fell, and hear their surprisingly eclectic views on a post 9/11 world. Learn about Iowa transplants living in New York City at the time of the attacks and how their lives have changed. Dean Wright, professor of sociology at Drake University, lends his expertise to the conversation by discussing how populations respond to both long- and short-term forces. The director of the Muslim American Society’s Iowa chapter, Miriam Amer, adds some perspective on life for Iowa’s Muslim population since 9/11.

Security issues continue to be a source of concern based on the elevated threat of bio-terrorist acts against Iowa’s agricultural way of life. Barbara Mack, a journalism professor at Iowa State University and an attorney, discusses why Americans seem more willing to give up their individual liberties in the name of security since 9/11.
