Perhaps no other state is more passionate about wrestling than Iowa. Iowans admire the dedication, hard work and determination needed to become a champion. And we are great fans who love the opportunity to cheer for our favorite wrestling team, especially during an Iowa vs. Iowa State meet. Up until just recently, all that fan adulation was rewarded with frequent national championships. But with Iowa's last national crown coming in 2000, and Iowa State's 15 years ago, the programs have fallen short of fans' expectations. Recent head-coaching changes at both schools, though, seem to underscore their national aspirations. How will this first-time-in-history coaching upheaval play out?
With the early-season Iowa-Iowa State confrontation coming up soon, Assignment Iowa explores the newest development in College Wrestling -- the hiring of two new head coaches; Cael Sanderson at Iowa State and Tom Brands at Iowa.
