The Film Lounge to showcase short, independent films by Iowa artists

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs today announces an open call for submissions to The Film Lounge, a new Iowa Public Television program that will showcase short independent films by Iowa artists.

Premiering this winter, The Film Lounge is produced by Iowa Public Television in partnership with the Iowa Arts Council and Produce Iowa, both divisions of the DCA. The program celebrates filmmaking as an art form, highlights art and experimental films by Iowans, and recognizes the contributions of filmmaking to the economic and cultural vitality of Iowa.

Submitted films must be two to 30 minutes in length, including credits, and will be accepted in the following genres:

  • Animation
  • Art
  • Documentary
  • Experimental
  • Music video
  • Narrative

The submission deadline is 11:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, via an online application portal available at iowaartscouncil.slideroom.com. Only one application may be submitted per individual, but applicants may submit up to three films for consideration. Films produced as part of a production competition, including the 48-Hour Film Project, are not eligible.
