Iowa Public Television’s High School Mentorship Program

In order to broaden opportunities for Iowa minority and female high school students, Iowa Public Television (IPTV) is offering a television production mentorship program for summer 2016.

The unpaid mentorship program will give one student the opportunity to observe and gain hands-on experience in several aspects of television production including videography, lighting, video editing, graphic design, web production and story writing. The selected mentee will shadow and assist Iowa Public Television personnel during the process of creating broadcast and online content. Students will have the opportunity to work on IPTV programs like Market to Market, Iowa Press, Iowa High School Girls Soccer, Iowa Ingredient and Iowa Outdoors

Iowa Public Television’s High School Mentorship Program begins June 3 and ends August 2. The selected student will spend one day each week for ten (10) weeks working with television professionals at IPTV. Please note: The student’s hours at IPTV will vary due to the fact that many of the programs are produced on different days of the week.

Interested applicants should complete an Iowa Public Television Application for Employment and Applicant Surveyprovide a letter of support from a school advisor or community leader, and write a one-page, typed document about themselves that outlines their interest in video production and their qualifications to be part of Iowa Public Television’s statewide television network team. 

Applicants must:

  • be at least 16 years of age
  • have reliable transportation to reach IPTV
  • have completed their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school
  • provide a Certificate of Age issued by a school official or Iowa Workforce Development Center.
