IPTV Premieres New Documentary Timeless Tractors: The Collectors

Iowa Public Television’s new documentary, Timeless Tractors: The Collectors, captures the deep reverence tractor lovers share for the machines that ushered in a new era of farming. The program will premiere during Festival on Wednesday, March 9 at 8 p.m. on statewide Iowa Public Television. It will also air Friday, March 11 at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 13 at 11:30 a.m.

This sequel to the 2003 documentary, Timeless Tractors, showcases people who passionately restore these iron horses as a way to preserve the past and maintain an appreciation of the ingenuity invested in farming. The film features a father-son restoration project, tractor clubs that show off their restored works of art and the journeys of men and women seeking that special tractor they worked with as a child.

“I wanted to give our viewers a look into the journey collectors make to uncover the great untold stories of how these machines shaped American agriculture as we know it,” said John Torpy, producer of Timeless Tractors: The Collectors. “I hunted for hard-to-find tractors with rare and unique stories, digging deeper into the histories of these mechanical beasts.”

The documentary illuminates stories of restoration and remembrance across the Midwest to find where tractors touched more than soil and grew more than a crop.

“I wasn’t looking for a bunch of pretty tractors as much as I was searching for the people cherishing a unique tractor story,” Torpy said.
