Tuscan & Umbrian Countryside Tour

Join Friends of Iowa Public Television as we head to explore Italy's Tuscan & Umbrian Countryside, September 22 - October 2, 2018. Revel in the magic of Italy on this 11-day "hub and spoke" tour that explores the cities of Rome, Orvieto, Spoleto, Assisi, Florence, Siena and San Gimignano. After arriving in Rome we'll travel through the Tuscan and Umbrian countryside, exploring medieval hill towns and visiting the birthplace of St. Francis, Assisi. Visits to some of Umbria's treasured wineries as well as a cooking class in a 16th-century farmhouse really allow you to see the heart of the country. Discover the "Cradle of the Italian Renaissance" when you visit Florence and then explore Siena’s narrow Gothic streets, magnificent palaces and historic Piazza del Campo. You'll end your exploration in the hill town of Volterra which is known for its alabaster artisans. You'll leave Italy with a new-found appreciation of the beauty, history and culture of this celebrated country.
