Iowa Public Television Raising Readers Learning Centers

IPTV Raising Readers Learning Centers are located in the waiting area of a health facility. They consist of a cart of age-appropriate children's materials such as books, activity books, toys, puzzles and more. Sometimes they can include a television and DVD player which allows children and parents the opportunity to experience high quality children's programming aired by Iowa Public Television. IPTV Raising Readers Learning Centers provide resources which encourage families to spend time together reading books, watching quality children's programs, and learning about additional ways to have fun together while waiting for their appointment.

IPTV piloted four Raising Readers Learning Centers in the communities of Storm Lake and Perry in 2008. In 2010, IPTV partnered with the Iowa Department of Public Health to add an additional 13 Learning Centers with a health and fitness emphasis in communities across the state. Additionally, IPTV and Reach Out and Read Iowa partnered to strategically expand literacy efforts across the state; 11 Learning Centers were distributed in the fall of 2010 and an additional 12 were distributed in the spring of 2011.
