Select IPTV staff have returned to Johnston from Atlanta, GA after attending the 2013 NETA Conference. NETA is the National Educational Telecommunications Association that allows staff members to network with others and learn about current practices and resources. IPTV staff were privileged to listen to guest speakers who shared their positive experiences using those resources that public television can provide and look forward to sharing those experiences and resources with our viewers and educators. Iowa Public Television continues to make stops around the state of Iowa, connecting with educators along the way. IPTV has enlightened educators as they learn about free resources that are captivating, current, and aligned to rigorous standards. In the last few weeks, IPTV has attended and presented at conferences such as the Iowa Technology and Education Connection, Green Hills AEA 21st Century Learners’ Conference, STEM Active Learning Conference, Social Studies Conference, Midwest Environmental Education Conference, and STEM Teacher Educators Conference. NOVA Labs is a new digital platform where "citizen scientists" can actively participate in the scientific process. Iowa Public Television is looking for middle school science teachers interested in a free online course. Through a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency, 85 Iowa Middle School Science Teachers have the opportunity to take the course, Global Climate Change Education. The PBS TeacherLine "Global Climate Change Education for Middle School" online course will begin February 27. This is a 6 week (3 credit) online course that will finish the mid-April, 2013. Iowa Public Television will pay the cost of the course which is $345. In addition, IPTV will pay for license-renewal credits through AEA PD online (3 credits). Graduate credit through Morningside is available for an additional fee (Graduate credit will be the expense of the learner, $60 per credit).
