Iowa Public Television is seeking a motivated Iowa Earth or Life Science teacher to participate in a STEM externship opportunity during summer 2019.

The selected candidate will work with IPTV’s educational media producers on a project to curate and create media-based science phenomena for use in Iowa classrooms. The teacher selected for this externship will work with IPTV experts on a variety of job tasks that might include: identifying opportunities for on-location video production to capture science phenomena, particularly those that represent locally-relevant or unique concepts; working with staff to plan and participate in field production events; collaborating with IPTV education producers to create and publish media pieces; developing supporting content and classroom materials; and exploring IPTV’s digital media library to identify relevant environmental science content.

Iowa STEM teacher externships are partnerships between teachers and a workplace host in their community, where the teachers apply classroom content to projects completed for the host for 5-6 weeks in the summer. Externs are paid a stipend, and can earn graduate and license renewal credits, both paid for by the program. The summer schedule is arranged with the host, and is usually flexible in terms of short vacations or other commitments.
