Transcript: "The Mix"
There are benefits to fuel diversity. And if there's a history of the energy dilemma, it's that we put all our eggs in one basket. Back in the 50s and 60s, we put all our eggs in the nuclear basket and said that's the future. Right now we're putting all our eggs into the gas basket; we're saying: 'Ah gas generation, that's where we're going.' We may be painting ourselves into a corner. Twenty, twenty-five, thirty-five years down the road, where we don't have the gas capacity, we've eliminated coal, we now have to bring coal back you see. It can be not a good situation and fuel diversity allows interfuel competition. It keeps prices low. It gives you much greater resilience and flexibility to meet all the uncertainties of the future. And we don't know what's going to happen in the future. We don't know where technology's going to take us.
