Art or Absurd?
A Chicago
artist stirred up a lot of controversy when he hired French scientists
to genetically engineer a rabbit. A gene from a fluorescent jellyfish
was inserted into a rabbit (a multi-celled embryo). The rabbit is now fully grown, and appears
to be a normal white rabbit. But put it under a black light and
the rabbit glows green, like something from a science fiction flick.
The artist says he intended the project to spark debate over biotechnology's
place in society, but animal activists argue the experiment was
abusive to the rabbit.
