Why do the ecological needs of a landscape matter? How does a landscape
fulfill the social needs of people? How can a landscape provide for the
economic needs of a community?
Let's face it, land is a limited resource. We count on it for everything.
We grow our food on it. We build our houses on it. We travel across it
for work, recreation, and just getting from Point A to Point B. The challenge
we face is managing the land so it keeps working for us into the future.
Explore More: Working Landscapes looks at the considerations it takes
to blend all three of our ecological, economic, and social needs.
This site tells you the story
of the Loess Hills of Western Iowa, gives you the problems surrounding
working landscapes, and then takes a closer look to help you unravel the
core issues. Take a look at and interact with the content. Discuss what
you learn with other people, form your own opinion on the subjects, but
always keep an open mind.
