Urban
Development
The
very act of development has a huge impact on water quality. The
potential for on construction sites is often 100
times greater than it is on agricultural sites, and
is the number one impairment to Iowas waterways! With some
planning and care, site developers can keep much of the soil on
site, where it belongs, and out of waterways. How do you keep the
soil on site? (BMPs) include: Schedule
excavation during low rainfall periods when possible. Cover disturbed
areas with sod or mulch as soon as possible. Divert water from these
areas. Use straw bales to slow down water movement in drainage ditches.
