Toxic Pollution (Amy Suarez, American Humane Society)
Why is managing manure so important? Ask Amy Suarez.
TRANSCRIPT:
When you have smaller numbers of pigs -- what you have is the waste. The byproducts can be used as fertilizer. But when you concentrate large numbers of hogs in a smaller space, what used to be potentially fertilizer and good for the land then becomes like toxic pollution in such concentrate amounts. And hogs actually produce a lot more waste than even a human being. So that many hogs...for example 10,000 hogs in a small area would produce much more waste than a town of 10,000 people.
