Edible Aquifers
Subject Areas:
    Health/Safety
    Science

This ICN session is presented by Sherri Marine, as part of a series from The University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory

Learn about the importance of aquifers and the danger of groundwater contamination. The Hygienic Laboratory staff will mail participating schools ingredients to create an 'edible aquifer'. Students create their own 'edible aquifers' during the ICN interaction. The 'edible aquifer' is used to demonstrate how water flows through the layers of an aquifer and how water contamination can occur.

This is what participating teachers have said about this session in past years:

  • This provided a singular investigative moment with science - something I seek often to lend new perspectives to my Talented and Gifted students in science.
  • We loved "Edible Aquifers"!! What a fabulous performance!! Thank you for providing all the materials!!

This special session is limited to the first three schools to register.

Following the ICN session, registrants receive the complimentary book A Drop of Water, as well as an Explore More DVD set.
