PLEASE READ THE EVENT DESCRIPTION THOROUGHLY. PRINT THE DESCRIPTION, AND RETAIN IT FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. This ICN session is presented by Marcia Valbracht, as part of a series from The University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory What if eating a hamburger or a hotdog would make you very, very sick? What if you had to drink special milk or take a special pill in order to be healthy? When you were born, a nurse took some blood from your heel and sent it to me and my laboratory to be tested for some things that can make you very sick. Most of the time when babies are born they are healthy and they grow up to be big and strong. Sometimes we find babies that need special care. If we know this when you are a baby, we can keep you healthy. Doctors know how to treat you and other babies like you and help your parents learn how to take care of you. You may have to take medicine or eat special food, or take a vitamin pill. You may never be able to eat hamburgers, but you can eat other food that is good tasting and good for you. We can make sure that you grow up to be big and strong, too. Following the ICN session, registrants receive the book Body Baddies or alternate title.
