Purpose: To assist early childhood care, health and education consultants and providers in promoting safe sleep behaviors and maintaining safe sleep environments for infants in child care.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
- Understand current research in regards to the definition, myths, facts, and scientific models of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
- Identify the American Academy of Pediatrics' risk reduction recommendations and the importance of implementation and modeling of these recommendations in the child care setting to reduce SIDS and other accidental sleep related infant deaths.
- Discuss the role of the child care provider and child care consultant in providing safe sleep environments for infants, to include safe sleep policy, unresponsive infant drills, and the caregivers role in the event of an infant death
