Iowa Alternate Assessment 2012-2013: Teachers, Building Administrators, & AEA Staff
Subject Area:
    Professional Development

The Iowa Alternate Assessment (IAA) is the State AYP assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities. The IAA reflects the combined vision and federal requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) both of which promote high expectations, uniform standards, and public accountability. The IAA measures student performance in Reading and Math, and for some students, Science. It also measures the extent to which students with significant disabilities have participated in and benefited from grade-level general education curriculum.

This ICN will address policy and procedures of the Iowa Alternate Assessment for the 2012-2013 school year and is being offered at multiple times to accommodate individual schedules. Participants need only register for one ICN session as content will be repeated throughout each scheduled session.

In order to increase the academic achievement for students with significant disabilities, participants will:

  • Understand policy and procedures of the IAA
  • Understand IAA process components and how to report out student performance
  • Understand how to access resources that support the IAA process
  • Understand their role in ensuring the IAA is implemented with integrity
