Careers in Agronomy: A true STEM Career
Subject Areas:
    Careers/Vocational Education
    Guidance/Personal Growth
One doesn’t need to look far to find handfuls of reports on labor trends and the educational assets our graduates will need to fill jobs related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers.

The various types of careers-in the field of agronomy definitely fall under the umbrella of STEM careers. Employment of Agronomists is expected to grow 9 percent between 2006 and 2016 and the salaries are great. Median annual earnings of Agronomists were $56,080 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $42,410 and $72,020. (U.S Department of Labor, 2008)

What your students may not know is that Agronomy graduates have the ability to specialize and enter a wide variety of careers. Jobs can be as varied as turfgrass specialists to work in conservation to the newer field of biotechnology. And about everything imaginable in between!

Teachers, bring your students to this session to learn from staff at the Agronomy Department at Iowa State University. They will give your students real world examples of the exciting types of work that they might expect to do with an Agronomy Degree. They will also share information about some of the programs ISU offers and what your students should be doing NOW if they want to pursue a degree in agronomy. We have companies in Iowa that need qualified workers in Agronomy , both men and women!
