Career Day: Becoming a Large Animal Veterinarian
Subject Areas:
    Careers/Vocational Education
    Science

This session is part of a series of ICNs that will help your students understand what it takes to become a vet as well as the various fields that students with an interest in animal science might pursue.

During this session your students will have the opportunity to meet a practicing large animal veterinarian. We will show your students a video of her in her daily routine as she visits farms administering medicines and treatments. She has been practicing in Iowa for over 30 years so she is a wealth of information.

In addition, a veterinarian who has held a position on the admissions panel for Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will talk to your students about what it takes to get admitted and how to be successful in this rigorous academic program. Your students can get valuable tips on what they should be studying now and things that they can do to improve their chances on getting accepted to this highly competitive and selective program. She owns a small animal practice in Iowa so will talk briefly about owning a business.
