About this session:
Presenter:
Nancy Ankeny, Iowa College Student Aid Commission
Beginning with the 2008 8th grade class, every Iowa student must complete the state designated career planning system by the time they exit high school. IhaveaplanIowa is the new online system used by most Iowa schools. This session will review the tools available in the online portal. Specific strategies for using Ihaveaplaniowa with youth with disabilities will be shared, including alignment with the Iowa Transition Matrix and IEP development.
About this series:
This series of five ICN sessions are intended to support individuals who are involved in assisting youth with disabilities to prepare for, and transition to, successful postsecondary living, learning, and working activities. Each session focuses on a topic that most secondary special education teachers, work experience coordinators and other IEP team members frequently address.
The overall theme across the sessions is practical application of transition assessment following the Iowa Transition Assessment Model. Although transition assessment is incorporated throughout the series each session is intended to stand alone. Participants should feel comfortable selecting those sessions that match their interests and schedules.
In addition to the topical issue, each session may contain pertinent updates from the Iowa Department of Education. For example, while the primary topic of the first session is the Fair Labor Standards Act, Barbara Guy from the Iowa Department of Education will spend a few minutes discussing implications of changes in the Meeting Notice Form and calculation of Indicator B-13.
All efforts will be made to keep topics on the dates listed. Changes may be made based on presenter availability or the emergence of unplanned critical issues.
