Hot mulled cider was enjoyed in Medieval England as an integral part of wassailing, a drinking ritual meant to ensure a good apple harvest the following year. The amazing smell is reason enough to make this but it tastes great too!

  • 2 qt. Apple cider
  • 2 c. orange juice
  • ½ c. lemon juice
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • Experiment with additional spices like cardamom, nutmeg, ginger and star anise - or use a prepared mulling mix.

In a slow-cooker or a large pot over low heat, combine all of the juices and season with the spices. Bring to a simmer, then turn the heat to low and allow to simmer all day. Serve hot. If desired, add a bit of whisky, bourbon, brandy or rum when serving.
