Easy Pie Crust

We find this lard crust method makes a perfect pie crust every time. Do you use lard? Or butter? Shortening?

Ingredients - for a single 9" crust

  • ½ c. lard
  • 3 Tbsp. cold water
  • 1½ c. flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Using a fork, work together the water and lard. It will seem like nothing is happening, but hang in there. When your arm gets tired, add the flour and salt and combine with a pastry blender. It will begin to resemble coarse crumbs. Work in another tablespoon of water if it’s too dry to form a ball. Wrap with plastic wrap and chill for a few hours or up to three days before rolling.
