Sweet and savory! Try out this classic dish with a twist.
Apple Cheddar Crisp
6 oz. butter
1 cup Whole Wheat AP or Pastry Flour
3/4 cups rolled oats
1/4 cup brown sugar
4 oz. cheddar cheese, small cubes
½ cup pecans, roughly chopped
1 tsp salt
4 cups Jonathan, Granny Smith or other baking apple, cored, and cut into 1 inch chunks
Zest and Juice of 1 orange
4 Tbsp organic cane sugar
In food processor, pulse butter into flour until small crumbs form. Add oats, cheese, sugar, nuts and salt, pulse until combined. Set aside.
Meanwhile: Preheat oven to 375°F. Butter or spray with a cooking spray, a 9 inch pie pan or an 8 x 8 baking dish. Set aside. Place the apple chunks and orange zest in a large bowl. Toss with the orange juice and sugar. Transfer to your prepared baking dish. Spread the topping evenly over the apples. Bake for 25-35 minutes until golden brown.
