The Iowa Journal examines the role cultural enrichment plays in creating vital communities that attract and retain citizens.
Discussion guests for the program include: Robert McConnell, music director of the Southeast Iowa Symphony that serves a 19-county area; and Kathryn Dickel, who helped organize the annual Crossroads Entertainment Conference and Showcase and is a partner in IowaTIX and Swaelu Media.
The program will also explore some of the cultural offerings that have transformed Des Moines from a "sleepy" city to number four on Forbes Best Places list, talk to some of the city’s art and entertainment entrepreneurs, and find out why one couple recently moved to Des Moines from Austin, Texas, to take advantage of the cultural climate.
In the news analysis, Jeneane Beck of Iowa Public Radio talks with host Paul Yeager about labor issues including fair share, prevailing wage, the Atalissa bunkhouse at House Oversight committee and gas tax. (27:47)
