While key economic indicators show Iowa's economy is gaining strength, job growth continues to lag. Although Iowa's unemployment rate of 6.8 percent is well below the 9.9 percent national rate the number of Iowans unemployed rose to 114,600 statewide. But not all of Iowa suffers as high a loss of jobs. The Iowa Journal visits the town of Carroll, where the unemployment rate has dropped to 5.1 percent - the second lowest in the state. The community has helped build a diverse range of industry through strategies including the Western Iowa Advantage partnership that utilizes the strengths of an eight county region.
