DTV - Will I get better reception after Feb. 2009? - Are stations on low power?

posted on November 10, 2008 at 2:15 PM

So, you have your DTV converter on, and the antenna set up. Will you get better pictures after February of 2009?

DIGITAL ‘LOW POWER’

Q:   Are the digital stations operating at lower power right now?

A:   We are not aware of any digital stations operating at less than the FCC assigned power at this time.  The power rating might be a smaller number, but this has to do with the way digital power output is calculated vs. analog output power.  It should work out to have the same coverage area as analog.

QUAD CITIES RECEPTION

Q:   Why can’t I get your signal in Davenport?

A:    If you are trying to receive Iowa Public Television on channel 12 digital you could have a harder time of it because the digital transmitter is on channel 45 right now, which means a UHF antenna that has good reception capabilities (no rabbit ears or loops).

We are on the air in the Quad Cities with our new KQIN digital transmitter, but have not received FCC permission to increase our power yet so coverage is just local to Davenport.
