Time Frame: 1880's
The dairy industry boomed in northeastern Iowa in the early 1900s. As a result, butter making grew. With advances in technology, butter from Iowa was shipped to large cities around the country.

In the northeastern part of the state dairy farming was very common and the butter making industry developed as a result. With improved transportation, the butter making industry boomed. And in 1902 Iowa shipped butter to such distance markets as Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and New Orleans with over 70 percent going to New York City.
