Republican strategist David Kochel and Democratic strategist Jeff Link both predict a close race between Rep. Bruce Braley and State Sen. Joni Ernst for the U.S. Senate. Link says his team expected from the beginning that it would be a close race and although Ernst started the general election campaign with momentum from the primary, that momentum has slowed. Kochel says Braley has underperformed as a candidate, and political winds favor Republicans in 2014.
