Economists say new casinos in the middle of Iowa won't bring in new money

Economists David Swenson from Iowa State University and Ernie Goss from Creighton University say casinos in Iowa's border towns draw in money from out of state, but casinos more in the middle part of the state aren't necessarily good economic development tools. They say it's a money shift; the money brought into a casino is money that isn't being spent on other entertainment in the area as it might be if the casino wasn't there.
