Iowa's One-Room Schoolhouses

Glance through the windows, walk in the doors and relive the charm of Iowa's one-room schoolhouses.

Over twelve thousand of these little structures once dotted Iowa's landscapes. Learn how they came into existence, who taught and attended classes there, how the schoolhouses faded into Iowa's history and the affect they had on communities throughout their lifetime.

Circumstances weren't always rosy. Conflicts like the 1965 Amish incident, the challenges teachers faced every day and the pains of consolidation are all part of the one-room schoolhouse era.

This documentary will provide a fascinating, emotional, informative and visual tour of those times. Tune in to hear fond memories from those who lived within walking distance of these bygone institutions and find out what they felt was so special about Iowa's one-room schoolhouses.
