Iowa Public Television presents "This Old Statehouse," a half-hour documentary on the work and workers that are restoring Iowa's most important architectural icon, the State Capitol. Through the use of video essays, in-depth interviews, and photos, both historical and contemporary, "This Old Statehouse" documents both the history of the Capitol and the story of its restoration.
Climb with the artisans to the top of the golden dome as they give the Capitol back its rightful luster. Step inside the building's massive brick and limestone walls where stonemasons and bricklayers reweave the structure from the inside out. We'll take you on an archeological expedition with the restoration painters as they dig through generations of paint to discover the patterns of the past. And you'll travel with us to an eastern Iowa art foundry where bronze artisans recreate the designs of original Capitol craftsmen. It's a restoration all Iowans can be proud of and a documentary all Iowans will enjoy.
