On the next Assignment Iowa, host Todd Mundt examines the problem of obesity in Iowa – how big the epidemic is, who suffers from it, and what programs exist to help people to attain and maintain a healthier weight. Sixty percent of Iowa adults – nearly 1.3 million people – are overweight or obese, presenting a health concern of epidemic proportions. The program also looks at the affect on Iowa’s children – what challenges are faced by today’s overweight kids?

This new episode, which debuts April 9 at 6:30 p.m., also features an interview with Iowa native Matt Hoover, winner of NBC’s The Biggest Loser 2 program.

Assignment Iowa can also be seen on statewide Iowa Public Television on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday also marks the debut of Fat: What No One is Telling You, a national documentary that examines the impacts of obesity in the United States.
