Market to Market hosts final Rural Economic Summit for national broadcast

(Johnston, IA) – Market to Market, America's longest-running weekly agribusiness program, examines the impact of the economic recession in rural America with the final program in a series of four special editions recorded in the Midwest.

The final Rural Economic Summit will be held in Grand Island, Nebraska on Wednesday, September 15 at 1 p.m. The summit features a town hall discussion among experts recorded in front of a live audience and broadcast as a special edition of Market to Market.

Airing in more than 20 states across the nation, Market to Market's Rural Economic Summit airs in Iowa Friday, September 17 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 19 at noon on Iowa Public Television.   The program will be broadcast on NET Television in Nebraska on Saturday, September 18 at 6:30 a.m. and Sunday September 19 at 11:00 a.m.

The Rural Economic Summit in Grand Island, Nebraska will be taped at the 33rd Annual Husker Harvest Days.  As the nation's largest totally irrigated working farm show, Husker Harvest Days includes 700 acres of field demonstrations, 80 acres of exhibits and is expected to attract a crowd estimated at 50,000.

In addition to a wide range of topics covered at Husker Harvest Days, Market to Market's Rural Economic Summit will focus on economic challenges confronting America's grain and livestock producers.  Since the event takes place in the Western Corn Belt, where crops depend heavily on irrigation, the program also will examine innovative water management systems.

And, continuing a tradition spanning more than 35 years, Market to Market will feature expert analysis of the commodity markets that fuel the rural economy, and explore risk-management strategies to help producers cope with changing times.

Mark Pearson, host of Market to Market, will moderate the discussion.

Market to Market is a production of Iowa Public Television.  Major funding is provided by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and public television stations.   Production assistance is provided by Farm Progress Companies and NET Television.
