FELDSPARjazz
This
group, composed of three local jazz musicians, was formally
established in 1988 after years of mutual involvement with
other area bands. The instrumentation for FELDSPARjazz consists
of guitar, bass, and drums.
The drummer,
Scott Bell, has played for many bands in the North Iowa
area and is well respected as an instructor, clinician,
adjudicator, and well-rounded musician, as well as having
developed an excellent reputation as an musical instrument
repairman.
Alan Haight
has an extensive musical history including being classically
trained on the acoustic bass, and has played with a variety
of bands from R&B to traditional big band. Musically,
he has been involved with numerous groups in the North Central
Iowa area for over 25 years.
John Sjolinder
is the guitar player for Feldspar. He has played both guitar
and bass with area bands for the past 25 years. His accomplishments
include original compositions, studio recordings, and being
the featured soloist for various concerts.
FELDSPARjazz
plays a variety of jazz feels including traditional be-bop,
smooth, contemporary, and somewhat unpredictable blues.
Occasionally, a few vocals are thrown in just to keep the
crowd rowdy. The trio has been used as the core group for
many guest artists and often performs together as part of
larger bands. They are currently working on their first
CD in 13 years which is expected to be released in the Fall
of 2001.
