Iowa Public Television

There's No Place Like Home!

Recently, I was invited to play the part of the Wizard of Oz!

IPTV Kids Clubhouse!

It was at a Kids' Bank Conference in Burlington where
I helped teach kids about being smart with their money!

IPTV Kids Clubhouse!

You know what they say: "If the ruby red shoe fits, wear it!"

IPTV Kids Clubhouse!

I even had a chance to meet Dorothy and a friendly Munchkin!

Dan's Wise Advice of the Day:
A suit of armor might seem like a good wardrobe choice when facing a dragon,
but remember, it takes a long time for metal to cool down!

The Bus and the Butterfly!

Today a busload of kids showed up
to story time at the Keokuk Public Library!

2008 Reading Road Trip

I didn't realize how many kids can fit in a bus!

2008 Reading Road Trip

I also didn't realize that I would get stuck
trying to squeeze through that square hole I found!

2008 Reading Road Trip

Luckily, I grabbed hold of a giant butterfly and was pulled through!

2008 Reading Road Trip

It took me on a fantastic voyage to the planet of the rainbow shirt people!

2008 Reading Road Trip

When I returned, the library was exactly as I left -
filled with kids that love to read!

2008 Reading Road Trip

Later that afternoon at the Burlington Public Library,
guess what? Even more busloads of more kids!

2008 Reading Road Trip

That library has a bit of an ant problem!

2008 Reading Road Trip

It has a problem with other bugs, too!

2008 Reading Road Trip

My three friends here thought we should go camping after story time!

2008 Reading Road Trip

But it is too wet out there!

2008 Reading Road Trip

No camping and no parking!

Dan's Wise Advice of the Day:
The reason you should never go camping near high flood water
should be obvious! You might accidentally swallow a carp!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

We're down to the final nine Reading Road Trip stops, and I have to
"hand" it to the libraries - they are making my visits lots of fun!

Yesterday I discovered that the detectives in Burlington are very, very tall!
The kids are very, very short. And I'm somewhere in between!

An incredibly nice family gave me a "singing" book.
It turns anyone who holds it into an opera singer!

I ended the morning reading a little Shakespeare to the librarians!

That afternoon in Fort Madison, I was witness to
the most awesome socks ever worn by a librarian!
They look like Emily Elizabeth's socks!

One of my greatest friends, Wembley the Reading Sheep,
even showed up to story time! Can you see him?

And what better way to end the day than by catching a ride back
to the hotel on a flying horse and frog!

Announcement time! Sports has never been my strong suit, but I'm going
to be throwing out the very first pitch at the I-Cubs game on August 18!
Take a look!

Dan's Wise Advice of the Day:
Despite what most people think, an aluminum foil hat will rarely protect your
brain from alien mind probes! It will, however, make you look stylish and cool!
