14) Is television in child care a problem? What can we do about it?
- Ten percent of time in unlicensed family child care is spent watching television, 7 percent of that time watching educational television. 9
- Over 80 percent of child care centers have a television and use it. Ninety-three percent agreed that television is an appropriate teaching tool and PBS educational preschool programs were by far the most widely-used live programs. 10
- Educational television tends to be a nonjudgmental, nonthreatening and nonpunitive educator that can engage learners who might otherwise be turned off in formal education settings, including preschool. 11
