When Heidi Soliday took the job as KCCI-TV’s Sports Director in 1990, she became the first female television sports director in the country. For her work in sports reporting, she has received numerous professional honors. Heidi is a Des Moines native, graduating from Valley High School and the University of Iowa. She has always been involved in competitive sports of all kinds. A former Iowa age-group swimming champ, Heidi was also named to the 1972 U.S. Olympic Luge Team. Having cycled RAGBRAI since 1987, Heidi says she has probably visited nearly every city or town in the state.
Heidi has been watching Iowa Public Television since the early days of 'Zoom!' While a student at Iowa, she applied to be a color commentator for the Girls State Swimming telecast on IPBN! Her Saturday mornings aren't for cartoons. She can be found curled up with her husband and 10-year old son, 'traveling' with Rick Steves or catching a cooking tip from Lydia! Away from work and play, Heidi has served on several boards including the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, University of Iowa Alumni Association, and the Iowa Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
