The Pella tulips, the Band Festival in 'River City,' Czech sausages from Pohlena's Meat Market, tea at the Peppercorn Pantry and the gorgeous falls at Dunnings Spring Park....these are just a few of the things Karen Hoskins says she's fallen in love with during her years in Iowa.
Karen grew up on a farm just south of Waterloo and has made Iowa her lifelong home. She attended Iowa State University and received her Master's degree in Journalism at the University of Iowa. (But once a Cyclone always a Cyclone!)
Her career in broadcasting started as a college intern at the then University-owned WOI-TV in Ames. She went on to another reporting internship at KWWL-TV in Waterloo before she landed her first full-time broadcasting job at KIMT-TV in Mason City. There, she learned all the tricks of the trade–from typing scripts on manual typewriters to shooting her own video during northern Iowa winters, to anchoring the news and forecasting the weather. For the past 16 years she has anchored the news and reported at KGAN-TV in Cedar Rapids. You may have also seen her anchoring the Fox News at Nine at KDSM-TV in Des Moines. Her most recent endeavor has taken her into the Public Relations field, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
Karen lives in Cedar Rapids with her husband Bruce and their two children, ages three and five. As a family they enjoy discovering all that Iowa has to offer and have found that there's 'always something a little different' less than a gas tank away!
