Amy Johnson Boyle is a native of Minneapolis and a graduate of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. After working in Bowdoin’s Public Relations Office for a year after graduation, Amy went on to earn her master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University in 1987.
Six months after graduation, Amy landed a job as a reporter at KGAN-TV in Cedar Rapids. In 1990, she was named the station’s main weeknight anchor, a position she held for more than a decade. During that time, Amy earned numerous local, state and regional awards for her work in broadcast journalism.
In late 2000, Amy left TV to accept a job at Coe College as Director of Marketing and Public Relations. In that capacity, she was responsible for the promotion, publications, and special events of the college.
In March of 2003, Amy left Coe College to accept a position as Director of Marketing and Communications at the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, which put her back in the heart of the community she loves.
Amy is extremely active in the community. She serves on the boards of directors of the American Cancer Society, Red Cedar Chamber Music, Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa, the United Way of East Central Iowa and the newly-created SPT Theatre Board. She is especially proud of her family – husband Tim, President & CEO of the Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, and stepson Danny, age 24.
