Millennium Moon

The last full moon of the millennium was special not only because of its position on the calendar, but also because of both its and the earth's positions in space. On December 22, 1999 the moon was closer to the earth than at any other time during the year, and that combined with the winter solstice resulted in a moon that was seen as being unusually large.
