Mount Vernon born singer/songwriter Dan Bern has made quite a name for himself in folk music circles. Called "the next Bob Dylan," by more than one music critic, Bern is known for his sharp wit and biting satirical lyrics.

Bern is the son of Eastern European Jews who fled Nazi domination and eventually settled in the eastern Iowa college town. It was there he began a music career that has since taken him around the world.

Bern and his band, "The International Jewish Banking Conspiracy," recently opened for fellow folksinger and producer, Ani Difranco at Carnegie Hall. Living in Iowa was on hand for the band's concert at Gabe's in Iowa City and also spent some time with Bern in his hometown of Mount Vernon.
