In June of 2001, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive took a 2,250 mile tour through the Midwest.
Union Pacific’s ‘No. 3985’ is 122 feet long and has a hinged frame to allow it to negotiate curves. It was built in 1943 and retired in 1959, then restored in 1981 to running condition. We hopped aboard when it pulled into Council Bluffs.
