Venomous Reptiles
Broadcast 10/13/06
Polk County Conservation Naturalist, Lewis Major, risks his life to show viewers the four venomous snakes that inhabit Iowa. Well, that is a slight exaggeration because your chance of seeing a rattlesnake, let alone being bitten by one is very rare. With dwindling prairie and wetland habitat, venomous snakes are only found in a few places in our state. But, Lewis found all four snakes in one place in downtown Des Moines at the Science Center of Iowa. Animal specialist, Mark Rowe, helps Lewis get up close and personal with the rattlers and a few other interesting reptiles.
