Greg McDermott
Broadcast 10/20/06 For the first time in 50 years, Iowa State University has hired a native Iowan to be its new head basketball coach. Greg McDermott, who grew up on a farm near Cascade, and who attended the University of Northern Iowa before coaching there for the last seven years, will take the reins next season. Among the major college coaches in the state, McDermott has had the best recent success, coaching his teams to three straight NCAA basketball tournaments. Veteran sportscaster, Heidi Soliday, sat down with McDermott recently to discuss how his Iowa upbringing translates to success on the court.
