Iowa Artists: Jamie Burmeister
Broadcast 01/11/07 Art that makes you exercise? Jamie Burmeister has made that combination happen in several art galleries in Iowa and Nebraska. The Harlan, Iowa, native has a background in physical health so his exercise bikes somehow make sense when they're combined with his love of electronics and recycled materials. Jamie has created fanciful displays that include a little 'bug' that runs on solar energy, a terrarium that gets positive coaching from a smiling face on TV, and some shoes that seem to tap all by themselves. Living in Iowa meets this artist at his parent's farm near Harlan. This story is another in the series of Iowa Artists, inspired by the 2005 Iowa Artists exhibit at the Des Moines Art Center Downtown.
