Fritz Answers Questions (Help)

Hey! It's good to see you. It seems like anytime one of our producers has trouble, it always end up on my desk. That's OK because I love a good challenge. Some of the questions people have are pretty common. Take a look at the list of questions I've prepared to see if you can find the question you want answered. A question may be worded a little differently than your specific question, but try to find one that states the same idea as yours.

To make this section easy for you to use, I grouped all of your questions into main topic areas. Sometimes you will see a page number after the questions. The information you are looking for also can be found on those page numbers in your Producer Handbook.

For technical support and troubleshooting tips, please visit the Earth Trails: Mississippi River for Teachers Web site.

PASSWORDS

Do I need a password? (8)
You need a password if you want to save any work you do. The first time you save your session*, the program will take you through the process of creating a password and username.

* A session is the amount of time you spend in the program. Once you close out the program, your session ends. You need to save your session if you want to continue working on the same assignment. (See ASSIGNMENTS for more information.)

STARTING THE PROGRAM

How do I run the program? (8)
Double-click the Earth Trails shortcut/alias on your desktop. The program will start up. Or go to the Mississippi River folder on your hard drive and click on the Earth Trails program icon.

After a brief introduction, you will see the OPTIONS menu. This menu allows you to do many different tasks like: saving your session, changing the settings, printing your session information, and launching your Web browser to this Website.

Where do I start? (8, 18)
After a short introduction, you will see the OPTIONS menu. Click the START button in the lower left corner. You will find yourself at the Earth Trails Production House, where Jill, Ms. Edwards, and I work. We will help you out.

I also strongly suggest that you view the video that shows you how to use your Amadeus Media Composer. This is the tool you will use to do all of your multimedia production. The video is located on a television in your office space (just across from my office). Watch that video before you do anything else.

If you have time, take the Scavenger Hunt. It is on page 18 of your Producer Handbook. The Scavenger Hunt is a great way to learn how to get around and use your Amadeus Media Composer.

How do I get around? (9)
There are two types of navigation (getting around) in the program. You can either navigate within a location or between locations.

How do I navigate within a location? (9)
Look at your mouse cursor. It will show up as one of the following:
move left
Click when your cursor is pointing left to turn left.

move forward
Click when your cursor is pointing forward to move forward.

move right
Click when your cursor is pointing right to move right.

take a closer look/view a detail
Click when your cursor shows up as a magnifying glass to take a closer look at an item.

How do I navigate between locations?(9)
In the lower right corner of your screen is an icon that (usually) looks like this: .
This is how you pull up your Amadeus Media Composer. Your Amadeus has a travel feature. We have a travel agency that takes care of all your travel arrangements.

1. Open your Amadeus by clicking on the icon, and then click on the Travel button.
2. Highlight a location on the list.
3. Click on that location.Travel is automatically arranged. Close your Amadeus and you will find that you have arrived at your destination.

SAVING YOUR SESSION
You have done a lot of hard work. You probably have taken photos, recorded video and sounds, and done a lot of excellent writing, but you are not done yet. Save your session and come back to it later.

How do I save my session? (9)
Saving a session is easy.
1. Go back to your OPTIONS menu by clicking the Options button in the lower left corner of your screen.
2. Click on Save Session.
3. Follow the directions.

The first time you save your session, you will have to create a user name and password. After that, you will be prompted to save your session.
