It's good to see you. It seems like anytime one of our producers has trouble,
it always end up on my desk. That's OK because I love a good challenge.
Some of the questions people have are pretty common. Take a look at the
list of questions I've prepared to see if you can find the question you
want answered. A question may be worded a little differently than your
specific question, but try to find one that states the same idea as yours.
To make this section easy for you to use, I grouped all of your questions
into main topic areas. Sometimes you will see a page number after the
questions. The information you are looking for also can be found on those
page numbers in your Producer Handbook.
What are the requirements for installing the program?
The technical requirements are:
· Macintosh (PowerPC, G3) running MacOS 8.5 or greater
· or Windows 95/98 (Pentium or comparable)
· Sound enabled (headphones or external speakers are recommended)
· 32 MB of RAM memory
· 8x or better CD-ROM drive
· Hard disk with at least 50 MB available for installation
· Internet connection and Web browser installed for Web access
Can I install this program on my Mac? (8)
Yes. The same disc installs on either Macintosh or PC.

How do I install the program? (8)
First, you have to install the program on the computer's hard drive. Next,
put the CD-ROM in the computer. Double-click the Install-Mississippi River
icon on the CD-ROM. A series of windows will come up that will guide you
through the installation process.
Where do I install the program? (8)
You can save the program anywhere on your computer that you want. The
program installs on your hard drive by default.
If you have a Macintosh, the program installs in the Mississippi
River folder on the hard drive.
If you have a PC, the program installs in the Mississippi
River folder within the Program Files folder on the hard drive.
How long does the installation take? (8)
This depends on the speed of your computer, but usually only one to two
Do I need a password? (8)
You need a password if you want to save any work you do. The first time
you save your session*, the program will take you through the process
of creating a password and username.
* A session is the amount of time you spend in the program.
Once you close out the program, your session ends. You need to save your
session if you want to continue working on the same assignment. (See ASSIGNMENTS
for more information.)
How come the program won't let me use the word I want
as my password? (8)
Check to see if your password has more than eight characters. The program
will only let you use passwords made up of eight or fewer characters.
What happens if I lose my password?
Your teacher can look up your password if you ever forget it.
Can I change my password? (8, 9)
Yes, you can change your password. Go to SETTINGS in the Option menu (the
first screen after you start the program). Click on the change user name/password
button, and then follow the instructions.
How do I run the program? (8)
Double-click the Earth Trails shortcut/alias on your desktop. The program
will start up. Or go to the Mississippi River folder on your hard drive
and click on the Earth Trails program icon.
After a brief introduction, you will see the OPTIONS menu.
This menu allows you to do many different tasks like: saving your session,
changing the settings, printing your session information, and launching
your Web browser to this Website.
Where do I start? (8, 18)
After a short introduction, you will see the OPTIONS menu. Click the START
button in the lower left corner. You will find yourself at the Earth Trails
Production House, where Jill, Ms. Edwards, and I work. We will help you
I also strongly suggest that you view the video that shows
you how to use your Amadeus Media Composer. This is the tool you will
use to do all of your multimedia production. The video is located on a
television in your office space (just across from my office). Watch that
video before you do anything else.
If you have time, take the Scavenger Hunt. It is on page
18 of your Producer Handbook. The Scavenger Hunt is a great way to learn
how to get around and use your Amadeus Media Composer.
How do I get around? (9)
There are two types of navigation (getting around) in the program. You
can either navigate within a location or between locations.

Look at your mouse cursor. It will show up as one of the following: move left

How do I navigate between locations?(9)
In the lower right corner of your screen is an icon that (usually) looks
like this: .
This is how you pull up your Amadeus Media Composer.
Your Amadeus has a travel feature. We have a travel agency that takes
care of all your travel arrangements.
1. Open your Amadeus by clicking on the icon, and then
click on the Travel button.
2. Highlight a location on the list.
3. Click on that location.Travel is automatically arranged. Close your
Amadeus and you will find that you have arrived at your destination.
SAVING YOUR SESSION
You have done a lot of hard work. You probably have taken photos, recorded
video and sounds, and done a lot of excellent writing, but you are not
done yet. Save your session and come back to it later.
How do I save my session? (9)
Saving a session is easy.
1. Go back to your OPTIONS menu by clicking the Options button in the
lower left corner of your screen.
2. Click on Save Session.
3. Follow the directions.
The first time you save your session, you will have to
create a user name and password. After that, you will be prompted to save

If you are on a Macintosh, your session information is saved to the Mississippi
River folder on your hard drive.
If you are on a PC, your session information is saved
