State Fair: Sloppy Joes on a Stick

posted on June 15, 2007

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) It's still a month and a half away, but news is out about the new foods on a stick available at this year's Minnesota State Fair.

Axel's Bull Bites Booth will be serving up sloppy joes on a stick. That follows the great success Axel's had with macaroni and cheese on a stick.

Not to be outdone, the O'Gara's Bar and Grill booth is offering corned beef and cabbage on a stick, calling the stick version of the traditional Irish meal Dublin Dawgs.

In both cases, the sloppy ingredients are surrounded by batter or a fried bun.

Fair organizers say they actively encourage outlandish creations.

Other new stick foods this year include scones with chocolate chips, caramel and marshmallows; butterscotch cake; s'mores; and fruit covered in batter, deep-fried and coated with powdered sugar.

This year's Fair will include 54 different stick foods. The fair runs from August 23rd through September Third at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in Falcon Heights.
