That Don't Mean Jack-O-Lantern

posted on October 27, 2006

Bill Foss has been growing large for 20 years but the 1,213 pound Cucurbita maxima that he grew this year has set a new record in Minnesota. Foss of Buffalo, Minnesota says his garden yielded five mammoth pumpkins this year with the smallest weighing in at 813 pounds.

His goal next year is to grow a pumpkin that will beat the national record of 1,502 pounds, which was set this year by a grower in Rhode Island. That would be a lot of pumpkin and not pie in the sky.
