Birth of Rare White Buffalo Draws Native Americans

posted on September 15, 2006

For the third time in just over a dozen years, a Wisconsin farm has seen the birth of a white buffalo. The odds of such a birth are one in a million, according to the National Bison Association.

A white buffalo is considered sacred by many Native American tribes and recently 50 Native Americans held a drum ceremony to honor the calf, which the farmer said he discovered after a storm in late August.

A South Dakota medicine man says Indian tradition teaches that a white buffalo will reunite all the races of man and restore balance to the world.
